The Introduction to Counselling SCQF Level 5 can be a great start for those who have no knowledge or experience of counselling and are also unsure of whether they want to apply for the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills.
This is also an opportunity to build confidence as you begin with the basics of counselling without wanting to commit to a longer term course.
The Introduction to Counselling is an SQA course and is designed for candidates who have no previous knowledge or experience of counselling.
The course introduces the purpose and basic concepts and processes of counselling including reflective practice.
Those who apply for the course do so for many reasons: some wish to further their self understanding, others wish to embed this learning into their current volunteering or work role and others plan to progress to become qualified counsellors.
“Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing.” BACP
‘Counselling and psychotherapy are ways of responding to a wide range of human needs. These include distress associated with what are sometimes called “problems in living”, and deeply felt need to make changes in one’s life’. COSCA
