Grounded Learning Ltd

About Grounded Learning Ltd.

Grounded Learning Ltd was founded in 2016 as a Counselling Training Provider in Scotland.

Dr Tricia Joyce and Christine McCann formed their partnership in 2023 after working together for a few years creating and delivering the COSCA validated and SQA Credit Rated Diploma in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy. In 2024 the Diploma will become an SQA Customised Award and will sit alongside a portfolio of Counselling Training Courses and CPD suitable for absolute beginners to accomplished counsellor and allied professionals.

Grounded Learning Ltd (SC670565) was founded to deliver the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills and other counselling related courses. Tricia was joined by experienced practitioners and trainers committed to offering quality training in a format to remove financial and logistical barriers.

The Grounded Learning Team have developed counselling and support initiatives for individuals and families within Education, Health, Corporate and Third Sector for over three decades.  They also have significant experience in working in private practice, service management, supervision, and training.  With expertise in Pluralistic, Person Centred, Existential, Psychodynamic and CBT modalities, their breadth and depth of experience become apparent in the quality of content and delivery of courses.

Their shared passion and commitment for supporting students to become ethical, competent, capable, and reflective practitioners in their field drives their enthusiasm in taking a lead role in developing and delivering the courses across Scotland. They continue to expand their team to include homegrown counsellors and trainers as well as drawing trainers from the professional landscape to join the team.

Grounded Learning offer validated, high quality counselling training accessible for all. We recognise that accessibility and inclusivity are a challenge when considering the next steps. With that in mind we have done our best to remove some of the barriers to training which include a programme which offers evening and weekend, online only or blended learning options. Grounded Learning courses reach students across Scotland and beyond with training centres throughout Scotland in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Kilmarnock and also developing our ability to deliver courses in community spaces .

We have developed the Grounded Learning Giveback Scheme and invite Scottish Third Sector organisations to nominate dedicated volunteers to access funded places on our COSCA Counselling Skills courses.

Grounded Learning Ltd are proud to be a COSCA recognised Counselling Organisation which abides by the COSCA Code of Ethics and Practice..

Grounded Learning - What to Expect

Well written course materials incorporated recent research and development in counselling and psychotherapy.  It is important to us to ensure our courses are robust and have external scrutiny to ensure applications of the quality of content and delivery.  Our course programme includes SQA Customised Awards, COSCA Validation and BACP Recognition.

We also have a diverse range of trainers and combine teams to include those who have extensive experience and those who are more recently qualified.  We are passionate about developing ‘home grown’ trainers as part of our team and we support them by offering a Professional Development Award in Training.

Our whole organisation is dedicated and committed to producing ethical, safe and legal practitioners who have a breadth and depth of knowledge and competence.  Our venues are also selected to provide the best environment for both training and counselling.

We have a wide network which includes guest speakers, placement providers and supervisors to support our course programme and continue to build this as we grow and expand.

We are also passionate about giving back to the community with our Grounded Learning Community Giveback Initiative Scheme which offers funded course places to nominated volunteers who devote their time to registered Scottish charities.  It is our hope to continue this moving forward.
